Said the Chiefs of the people of Pharaoh: "This is indeed a sorcerer well-versed. 109 He would drive you forth from your land; so what is it that ye enjoin? 110 They said: "Keep him and his brother in suspense (for a while); and send to the cities men to collect- 111 “To bring all the expert magicians to you.” 112 And the magicians came to Pharaoh and said: 'Shall we have a reward if we win?' 113 Pharaoh replied, "Certainly, and you shall also become my courtiers." 114 They said: O Moses! Either throw (first) or let us be the first throwers? 115 Said Moses: "Throw ye (first)." So when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people, and struck terror into them: for they showed a great (feat of) magic. 116 And we revealed unto Musa: cast down thy rod. And lo! it was swallowing up that which they had feigned. 117 ۞ Thus the truth prevailed and what they had produced came to nothing: 118 Pharaoh and his men were defeated and put to shame, 119 And the sorcerers prostrated themselves 120 and said, "We believe in the Lord of the Universe, 121 the Sustainer of Moses and Aaron!" 122 Fir'awn said: believed ye in him ere I have given you leave? Verily this is a plot ye have plotted in the city that ye may drive forth the people thereof. So presently ye shall know. 123 I will cut off on opposite sides a hand and a foot, and then crucify you all' 124 They said: "Verily, we are returning to our Lord. 125 You only take revenge on us because we believed in the Lord when we saw His miracles. Lord, grant us patience and let us die Muslims (submitted to God)." 126
