The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Alif-Lam-Ra. These are the verses of the Book, and a Qur'an luminous. 1 Perhaps (often) will those who disbelieve wish that they were Muslims [those who have submitted themselves to Allah's Will in Islam Islamic Monotheism, this will be on the Day of Resurrection when they will see the disbelievers going to Hell and the Muslims going to Paradise]. 2 Leave them alone; let them eat and enjoy themselves the while the hope [of vain delights] beguiles them: for in time they will come to know [the truth]. 3 And We have not destroyed a town but there was therefor a decree known. 4 No nation will precede its term, nor will they remain thereafter. 5 And they say: O you to whom the Reminder has been revealed! you are most surely insane: 6 "Why do you not bring angels to us if you are of the truthful ones?" 7 We send not the angels down except with the truth (i.e. for torment, etc.), and in that case, they (the disbelievers) would have no respite! 8 We have sent down this Exposition, and We will guard it. 9 And We had certainly sent [messengers] before you, [O Muhammad], among the sects of the former peoples. 10 But no Messenger came to them except he was mocked. 11 Thus do We let it (polytheism and disbelief) enter into the hearts of the Mujrimun [criminals, polytheists, pagans, etc. (because of their mockery at the Messengers)]. 12 who do not believe in it, although the way which those [evildoers] of olden times had to go has long been within their ken. 13 Had We opened a door for them in the sky through which they could easily pass, 14 they would still say, "Our eyes have been dazzled. We are bewitched." 15
