The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Event (the resurrection) comes 1 there is no denying its coming 2 abasing, exalting, 3 When the earth is shaken with a shaking [severe,] 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 And become dust dispersing. 6 And ye shall be sorted out into three classes. 7 So those on the Right Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Records in their right hands), Who will be those on the Right Hand? (As a respect for them, because they will enter Paradise). 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 they who were [always] drawn close unto God! 11 in the Gardens of Delight 12 a large group of the early believers, 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 upon close-wrought couches 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 With vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring - 18 Wherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness, 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 And pure, beautiful ones, 22 Like unto preserved pearls. 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 but only the saying: 'Peace, Peace' 26 And those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 In shade long-extended, 30 And water everflowing. 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 Neither intercepted nor forbidden, 33 and upraised couches. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 And made them virgins, 36 loving companions, matching in age, 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
