The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 and the day as it rises bright! 2 And Him who created the male and female, 3 Certainly, your efforts and deeds are diverse (different in aims and purposes); 4 As for him who gives and is godfearing 5 and confirms the reward most fair, 6 So We will very soon provide him ease. 7 But he who does not give and is unconcerned, 8 And disbelieveth in goodness; 9 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Misery; 10 And his substance will avail him not when he perisheth. 11 Truly! Ours it is (to give) guidance, 12 and to Us belong the hereafter and the worldly life. 13 I have warned you then about a raging Fire: 14 None except the most wicked will enter it. 15 He who denieth and turneth away. 16 He will be far away from the most pious. (The first Caliph S. Abu Bakr Siddiq) 17 one who gives his wealth to become purified, 18 and owes no favour to anyone, which is to be repaid, 19 Except only the desire to seek the Countenance of his Lord, the Most High; 20 and before long he will be well satisfied. 21
