And certainly We created man of clay that gives forth sound, of black mud fashioned in shape. 26 whereas the invisible beings We had created, [long] before that, out of the fire of scorching winds. 27 And lo! Thy Sustainer said unto the angels: "Behold, I am about to create mortal man out of sounding clay, out of dark slime transmuted; 28 And when I have proportioned him and breathed into him of My [created] soul, then fall down to him in prostration." 29 So the angels fell prostrate, all of them together 30 save Iblis; he refused to be among those bowing. 31 God asked him, "What is the matter with you, that you are not among those who have prostrated themselves?" 32 He said it was not for me that I should prostrate myself unto a human being whom Thou hast created from ringing clay of loam moulded. 33 Said Allah, “Therefore exit from Paradise, for you are an outcast.” 34 and there shall be a curse upon you till the Day of Recompense." 35 "O my Lord," said he, "give me respite till the day the dead are raised." 36 Said Allah, “You are of those given respite.” 37 Till the Day of appointed time. 38 He said: my Lord! because Thou hast led me to err I will surely make things fairseeming unto them on the earth and will surely seduce them all: 39 [all] save such of them as are truly Thy servants!" 40 Said He: "This is, with Me, a straight way: 41 No power shall you have over (all) My creatures except those who fall into error and follow you, 42 And indeed hell is the promise for all of them. 43 There are seven gates in it, and to each gate a portion of them has been allotted. 44
