When the messengers came to Lot and his family, 61 he said, "You are strangers [to me]." 62 They said: "Nay, we have come to you with that (torment) which they have been doubting. 63 and we have come to you with the truth, and surely we are truthful, 64 So set forth, thou with thy family, in a watch of the night, and follow after the backs of them, and let not any one of you turn round; and depart unto the place you are commanded.' 65 And We made plain the case to him, that the root of them (who did wrong) was to be cut at early morn. 66 The people of the town came along, revelling, 67 [Lout (Lot)] said: "Verily! these are my guests, so shame me not. 68 And guard against (the punishment of) Allah and do not put me to shame. 69 They said: forbade we not thee against the worlds? 70 He said, “These women of our tribe are my daughters, if you have to.” 71 By your life, they wandered on in their wild intoxication 72 An explosion struck them at sunrise. 73 and We turned those [sinful towns] upside down, and rained down upon them stone-hard blows of chastisement pre-ordained. 74 Indeed in that are signs for those who discern. 75 And surely it is on a road that still abides. 76 Indeed in this are signs for the believers. 77 The dwellers of the Wood (near Midian) were also wicked. 78 We therefore took revenge from them; and indeed both these townships are situated on an open road. 79
