۞ And We verily gave Abraham of old his proper course, and We were Aware of him, 51 when he said unto his father and his people, "What are these images to which you are so intensely devoted?" 52 They replied: 'We found our fathers worshipping them' 53 Abraham said, "Indeed, you and your fathers have been clearly misguided." 54 They said, "Have you brought us the truth or are you jesting?" 55 He said: Aye! your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth Who created them, and as to that I am of the witnesses. 56 And, by Allah! I will certainly do something against your idols after you go away, turning back. 57 He broke them all into pieces, except their great one so that they might return to it. 58 They said, “Who has done this to our Gods? He is indeed cruel!” 59 They said: We heard a youth speak of them, who is called Ibrahim. 60 Said they: Then bring him before the eyes of the people, perhaps they may bear witness. 61 They said: Is it thou who hast done this to our gods, O Abraham? 62 He replied, "I think the biggest among them has broken the smaller ones. Ask them if they are able to speak". 63 Thereupon they turned to their (inner) selves and said (to themselves): "Surely it is you who are the wrong-doers." 64 And they were utterly confounded, and they said: Well thou knowest that these speak not. 65 He said, 'What, and do you serve, apart from God, that which profits you nothing; neither hurts you? 66 “Disgrace be upon you and all the idols whom you worship instead of Allah; so do you not have sense?” 67 They said, "Burn him and help your deities, if you are resolved to do something." 68 [But] We said: O fire! Be thou cool, and [a source of] inner peace for Abraham!" 69 They desired to outwit him; so We made them the worse losers, 70 And We delivered him and Lut to the land wherein We had placed Our blessings for the worlds. 71 And We bestowed upon him Isaac and [Isaac's son] Jacob as an additional gift and caused all of them to be righteous men, 72 and made them leaders who would guide [others] in accordance with Our behest: for We inspired them [with a will] to do good works, and to be constant in prayer, and to dispense charity: and Us [alone] did they worship. 73 And to Lot We gave judgement and knowledge, and We saved him from the city that was committing wicked deeds. Indeed, they were a people of evil, defiantly disobedient. 74 We admitted him to Our Mercy, he was among the righteous. 75
