To whosoever blinds himself from the Remembrance of the Merciful, We shall assign him a satan so he is his companion, 36 Satan will prevent them from the right path while they think that they have the right guidance. 37 To the extent that when the disbeliever will be brought to Us, he will say to his devil, “Alas – if only there was the distance* of east and west, between you and me!” – so what an evil companion** he is! (* Had I not listened to you. **They will be bound together in chains.) 38 And since you were unjust, it will not profit you this day that you are sharers in the chastisement. 39 Can you, (O Prophet), then make the deaf hear, or direct to the Right Way the blind or one lost in manifest error? 40 So if We take you away, We shall then indeed take revenge from them. 41 Or show you what We have promised them – We therefore have complete control over them. 42 Therefore hold fast to that which has been revealed to you; surely you are on the right path. 43 And most surely it is a reminder for you and your people, and you shall soon be questioned. 44 Ask Our Messengers whom We sent before you if We have ever made gods, other than the Merciful, to be worshipped. 45
