Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat)
60 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Dunes (Al-Ahqaaf) before Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the winds that scatter the dust, 1 And those that lift and bear away heavy weights; 2 And (the ships) that float with ease and gentleness; 3 then by the distributors (angels), ordered; 4 What you are threatened with is most surely true, 5 and, verily, judgment is bound to come! 6 By the beautiful heavens, 7 Verily ye are in a divided opinion. 8 and are turned away from him who is turned. 9 Doomed are the conjecturers 10 Who are within a flood [of confusion] and heedless. 11 They ask, “When will be the Day of Judgement?” 12 (It will be) a Day when they will be tried (i.e. burnt) over the Fire! 13 "Taste your trial. This is what you sought to hasten." 14 The righteous shall live among gardens and fountains, 15 receiving their reward from their Lord. They had been righteous people before the Day of Judgment. 16 They used to sleep only a little during the night. 17 And used to seek forgiveness before dawn. 18 And the beggar and the destitute had a share in their wealth. 19 In the earth there is evidence (of the Truth) for those who have strong faith. 20 just as [there are signs thereof] within your own selves: can you not, then, see? 21 And in the heaven lies your sustenance, and the promise you are given. 22 Then, by the Lord of heaven and earth, this is the very Truth, as much as the fact that ye can speak intelligently to each other. 23
