Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
You, who have wrapped yourself up with a mantle, 1 keep vigil the night, except a little 2 Half of it, or lessen it a little, 3 or add to it [at will]; and [during that time] recite the Qur'an calmly and distinctly, with thy mind attuned to its meaning. 4 Indeed, We will cast upon you a heavy word. 5 Surely in the watches of the night the soul is most receptive and words more telling. 6 Indeed during the day you have a long schedule of occupations. 7 And remember thou the name of thy Lord, and devote thyself to Him with an exclusive devotion. 8 He is the Lord of the east and the west, there is no deity but Him, so take Him as your Guardian. 9 And bear thou patiently what they say, and forsake them graciously. 10 Leave the prosperous disbelievers to Me and give them respite for a little while; 11 for with Us there are fetters, and a furnace, 12 food that chokes and painful punishment 13 upon the day when the earth and the mountains shall quake and the mountains become a slipping heap of sand. 14 Surely We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness over you, just as We had sent a Messenger to Pharaoh. 15 In response Firaun disobeyed the Noble Messenger, so We seized him with a severe seizure. 16 How then, if you disbelieve, will you preserve yourselves on the day which will even turn the children hoary? 17 The Day when the heavens will be rent asunder and God's promise shall be fulfilled. 18 Verily this is an admonition; let him therefore, who will, choose a way unto his Lord. 19
