The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Mount, 1 Consider [God's] revelation, inscribed 2 In a Scroll unfolded; 3 The house ever-peopled, 4 By the roof elevated. 5 Consider the surf-swollen sea! 6 Verily, the Torment of your Lord will surely come to pass, 7 there is no one who could avert it, 8 (It shall come to pass) on the Day when the heaven will convulse in a great convulsion, 9 and the mountains will move with [an awesome] movement. 10 Woe will be to those who rejected the Truth 11 That play (and paddle) in shallow trifles. 12 On that day they will be violently pushed into the fire 13 "This is the Fire which you used to deny. 14 Is it magic, or you cannot see? 15 Endure it [now]! But [whether you] bear yourselves with patience or without patience, it will be the same to you: you are but being requited for what you were wont to do." 16 The pious will live in bountiful Paradise, 17 Rejoicing because of what their Lord gave them, and their Lord saved them from the punishment of the burning fire. 18 "Eat and drink with good cheer as a reward for your good deeds," 19 reclining on couches [of happiness] ranged in rows!" And [in that paradise] We shall mate them with companions pure, most beautiful of eye. 20 We shall unite the believers with those descendants of theirs who followed them in their faith, and shall not deny them any part of the reward for their good deeds. Every person is pledged to what he did. 21 And We shall increasingly give them fruit and meat such as they desire. 22 They shall pass on to one another a cup that will incite neither levity nor sin. 23 ۞ And their boy servants shall go around them, as if they were pearls, safely hidden. 24 They will turn to one another and ask (regarding the past events). 25 "Before this, when we were among our families, we were full of fear of God's displeasure -- 26 But Allah has been gracious to us and He has saved us from the punishment of the hot wind: 27 we were before ever calling upon Him; surely He is the All-benign, the All-compassionate.' 28
