The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the inevitable event takes place, 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 and the mountains crumbled, 5 So they will become like fine dust, scattered in a shaft of light. 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 Companions of the Right, what are the Companions of the Right? 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 Who will be honoured 11 in the Gardens of Delight, 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 Immortal youths will serve them 17 With vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring - 18 which will not cause them any intoxication or illness. 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 And with flesh of fowls from that which they desire. 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 beautiful as pearls hidden in their shells. 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin - 25 Except the word peace, peace. 26 And the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 27 (will be) among thornless Lote trees. 28 And plantains laden with fruit. 29 and continuous shade, 30 and flowing water, 31 And fruit in plenty 32 Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden, 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 And made them virginal, 36 Loving companions matched in age, 37 All this will be for the People on the Right; 38
