The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 And your garments purify! 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 So when the Trumpet will be blown. 8 That Day will be a difficult day 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 I made things smooth and easy for him, 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 Then he looked, 21 frowned and scowled; 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 This is nothing but the word of mortal man!" 25 [Hence,] I shall cause him to endure hell-fire [in the life to come]! 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
