Nay, verily: By the Moon, 32 By the night when it departs. 33 And by the dawn when it brightens, 34 This is but one of the mighty (portents), 35 a warning to humans, 36 a warning to everyone of you whether he would like to come forward or lag behind. 37 Each one is a hostage to one's deeds, 38 save those who shall have attained to righteousness: 39 who shall be in the Gardens, and shall ask 40 Concerning the culprits: 41 'What thrusted you into Sakar?' 42 They will answer: "We were not among those who prayed; 43 And did not feed the needy, 44 we indulged in vain arguments along with those who indulged in them; 45 "And we used to belie the Day of Recompense 46 until the Inevitable End [death] overtook us." 47 Then there will not profit them intercesion of the interceders. 48 Why now turn they away from the Admonishment, 49 as though they were terrified asses 50 Fleeing from a lion? 51 Nay, but everyone of them desireth that he should be given open pages (from Allah). 52 Nay! but they do not fear the hereafter. 53 Nay; this is an Exhortation. 54 So whoever pleases may mind it. 55 And they will not heed unless Allah willeth (it). He is the fount of fear. He is the fount of Mercy. 56
