The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 About the great event, 2 About which they are in disagreement. 3 (What they think is certainly despicable!). They will soon come to know (the reality). 4 Yes, indeed, before long they will learn all about it. 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 Have We not created you in pairs, 8 and We made your sleep a rest, 9 And made the night a cover. 10 And made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We made above you seven strong ones, 12 and placed therein a hot, shining lamp, 13 And from the wind-driven clouds We send down waters pouring in abundance, 14 so that We may bring forth thereby grain and a variety of plants, 15 and gardens dense with foliage. 16 VERILY, the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false] has indeed its appointed time: 17 On that Day when the trumpet shall be sounded, you shall come in droves, 18 And the heaven shall be opened, and it will become as gates, 19 And the hills are set in motion and become as a mirage. 20 Behold, Gehenna has become an ambush, 21 a resort for the rebellious; 22 They will abide therein for ages. 23 They shall not taste therein cool nor drink 24 save boiling water and a stinking fluid -- 25 The reward to each is according to what he is. 26 for they never expected to be called to account, 27 And called Our communications a lie, giving the lie (to the truth). 28 However, We have recorded everything in a book. 29 "So taste [the penalty], and never will We increase you except in torment." 30
