He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 So you are after him! 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 And We made corn grow, 27 And grapes and herbage 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 his wife and his children. 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
