He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 Yet you pay attention 5 You pay full attention, 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 You neglect. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 lofty and pure, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 From what has God created him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
