The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Nay! I swear by this city 1 And thou art a freeman of this City;- 2 And the parent and the offspring, 3 Verily We have created man into toil and hardship. 4 Does he think that none has power over him! 5 He will say: 'I have destroyed a vast wealth' 6 Thinks he that none sees him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes 8 and a tongue, and a pair of lips, 9 And shown him the two ways (good and evil)? 10 But he has not attempted the ascent. 11 And what will make you know the path that is steep? 12 It is the setting free of a slave 13 or the feeding, upon a day of [one's own] hunger, 14 An orphan near of kin, 15 Or to the indigent (down) in the dust. 16 the believers who cooperate with others in patience (steadfastness) and kindness. 17 These are the people of the right hand. 18 And those who disbelieve in Our signs, they are the Companions of the Left Hand; 19 Upon them is a fire, in which they are imprisoned, closed and shut above them. 20
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
