The Sun (Al-Shams)
15 verses, revealed in Mecca after Destiny (Al-Qadr) before The Galaxies (Al-Burooj)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the sun and its rising brightness 1 and by the moon as it follows it; 2 And the day when it revealeth him, 3 By the Night as it conceals it; 4 By the heaven and That which built it 5 And the earth and Him Who spread it, 6 And the soul and Him Who made it perfect, 7 then inspired it to understand what was right and wrong for it. 8 He who purifies it will prosper, 9 And miserable is he who hath buried it. 10 The people of Thamud rejected (the truth) as a result of their rebelliousness 11 When the most wicked among them stood up in defiance. 12 So the Noble Messenger of Allah said to them, “Stay away from the she camel of Allah, and from its turn to drink.” 13 But they gave him the lie, and hamstrung the she-camel. So their Lord destroyed them for their crime and razed their city to the ground. 14 He did not fear the consequences. 15
True are the words of God the Almighty.
