The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By oath of the night when it covers 1 and by the day when it unveils. 2 And Him who created the male and female, 3 Indeed your efforts differ. 4 As for he who gives and fears Allah 5 And (in all sincerity) testifies to the best,- 6 We will ease him toward ease. 7 But as for one who is miserly and unheeding, 8 And denies the best [reward], 9 We shall surely ease him to the Hardship; 10 nor will his wealth profit him when he falls [into the pit]. 11 Verily We take upon Ourselves to guide, 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 I have warned you then about a raging Fire: 14 [the fire] which none shall have to endure but that most hapless wretch 15 Who denied (the truth) and turned away. 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 And gives of his wealth that he may grow in virtue, 18 And no one has done a favour to him, for which he should be compensated. 19 He desires only to please his Lord, the Supreme. 20 And soon will they attain (complete) satisfaction. 21
