The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Recite thou in the name of thy Lord Who hath created 1 He created man from a clot. 2 Read, for your Lord is most beneficent, 3 who, by the pen, taught the human being: 4 taught the human what he did not know. 5 Nay! Verily, man does transgress all bounds (in disbelief and evil deed, etc.). 6 That he thinketh himself independent! 7 Verily, to thy Lord is the return (of all). 8 Have you seen one who prevents 9 a servant [of God] from praying? 10 Have you seen if he is upon guidance 11 or orders piety? 12 What is your opinion – if he denies and turns away, how wretched will be his state! 13 Is he then unaware that Allah seeth? 14 Indeed, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock, 15 by the lying forelock steeped in sin. 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We will now call the guards! 18 Nay, Obey not thou him. But prostrate thyself, and draw near (unto Allah). ۩ 19
True are the words of God the Almighty.
