In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
(Muhammad), read in the name of your Lord who created (all things). 1 Has created man from a clot (a piece of thick coagulated blood). 2 Proclaim! And thy Lord is Most Bountiful,- 3 Who taught by the pen - 4 taught man what he did not know! 5 And yet, but yet man is rebellious, 6 for he believes himself to be self-sufficient. 7 Indeed towards your Lord only is the return. 8 Have you seen him who forbids 9 a worshiper when he prays. 10 Tell me, if he (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) is on the guidance (of Allah)? 11 or enjoins true piety? 12 Tell me if he (the disbeliever, Abu Jahl) denies (the truth, i.e. this Quran), and turns away? 13 Does he not know that Allah sees? 14 Nay! if he desist not, We would certainly smite his forehead, 15 the lying, rebellious forehead! 16 Let him call on his associates for help 17 We too shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 Nay, pay thou no heed to him, but prostrate thyself [before God] and draw close [unto Him]! ۩ 19
