The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ AlifLaamRa. Those are the verses of the Book, the Clear Koran. 1 It may be that those who disbelieve wish ardently that they were Muslims. 2 Leave them to eat and enjoy life and let false hopes amuse them. They will soon come to know. 3 We never destroyed any town without pre-ordaining the fate of its people. 4 No nation will precede its term, nor will they remain thereafter. 5 They say: 'Thou, upon whom the Remembrance is sent down, thou art assuredly possessed! 6 Why bringest thou not angels unto us, if thou art of the truthful? 7 We send not down the angels save with the Fact, and in that case (the disbelievers) would not be tolerated. 8 We have sent down this Exposition, and We will guard it. 9 We have sent forth before you Messengers among the factions of the ancients. 10 And no messenger would come to them except that they ridiculed him. 11 Thus do We insert denial into the hearts of the criminals. 12 They do not believe in it even though the practice of the ancients has already gone. 13 Yet even had We opened to them a gateway to heaven and they had ascended, on and on, up to it, 14 they would have said, "Our eyes are bewildered and we have been affected by magic." 15
