Recite unto them the story of Abraham: 69 When he said to his father and his people, "What do you worship?" 70 They said, "We worship idols and remain to them devoted." 71 He said: Do they hear you when you call? 72 or can they benefit or harm you?" 73 They replied, "But we found our fathers doing the same." 74 He said: See now that which ye worship, 75 you, and your elderly fathers? 76 Verily they are an enemy unto me, save the Lord of the worlds. 77 who created me; and He guides me, 78 He who gives me food and drink; 79 And when I am ill, it is He who cures me 80 Who will cause me to die and then will again restore me to life; 81 and whom I am eager shall forgive me my sins on the Day of Recompense' 82 (And then Abraham prayed): "My Lord, endow me with knowledge and wisdom and join me with the righteous, 83 “And give me proper fame among the succeeding generations.” 84 Make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss 85 “And forgive my father* – he is indeed astray.” (His paternal uncle) 86 Degrade me not upon the day when they are raised up, 87 The Day when there will not benefit [anyone] wealth or children 88 Save him who bringeth unto Allah a whole heart. 89 And the garden shall be brought near for those who guard (against evil), 90 And hell will be revealed for the astray. 91 It will be said to them: 'Where is that you worshipped, 92 beside Allah? Can they be of any help to you, or even be of any help to themselves?" 93 Then the idols and those who strayed will be hurled into the Fire headlong, one upon another, 94 and the hosts of iblis all together. 95 And they will say while they dispute with one another, 96 "By Allah, we were surely in clear error 97 When We held you (false gods) as equals (in worship) with the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists); 98 yet they who have seduced us [into believing in you] are the truly guilty ones! 99 and we have no intercessors now, 100 And not a devoted friend. 101 "'Now if we only had a chance of return we shall truly be of those who believe!'" 102 Verily in this is a Sign but most of them do not believe. 103 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
