Thamud denied the messengers 141 When their brother Saleh said to them: "Will you not take heed?" 142 I have been sent as a trusted messenger to you. 143 So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 "No reward do I ask of you for it (my Message of Islamic Monotheism), my reward is only from the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists). 145 Do you think that you will be left secure [forever] -- 146 amidst gardens and fountains, 147 And tilled fields and heavy-sheathed palm-trees, 148 And you carve out of the mountains, homes, with skill. 149 "But fear Allah and obey me; 150 Do not obey the orders of the transgressors 151 who do corruption in the earth, and set not things aright.' 152 They replied, "Surely you are bewitched. 153 Thou art but a mortal like us. So bring some token if thou art of the truthful. 154 He said: 'Here is a shecamel. She shall have her share of water as you have yours on an appointed day. 155 and do her no harm, lest suffering befall you on an awesome day!" 156 But they hamstrung her, and in the morning they were remorseful, 157 So the retribution came on them. Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers. 158 Your Lord is Majestic and All-merciful. 159
