The Thamud tribe denied the Noble Messengers. 141 Recall when their brother Salih said to them: "Have you no fear?" 142 “I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger of Allah to you.” 143 So fear God and follow me. 144 I do not ask any recompense of you for this. My reward is due from none but the Lord of all the worlds. 145 "Will you be left secure in that which you have here? 146 In these gardens and these springs, 147 And cornfields and palm-trees having fine spadices? 148 and that you will [always be able to] hew dwellings out of the mountains with [the same] great skill?" 149 So fear Allah and obey me. 150 And obey not the command of the prodigal, 151 those who spread corruption in the land instead of putting things right." 152 Said they: "Thou art but one of the bewitched! 153 You are naught but a mortal like ourselves; so bring a sign if you are one of the truthful. 154 Salih said: "This is a she-camel. There is a day set for her to drink and there is a day set for you to drink. 155 "And touch her not with harm, lest the torment of a Great Day seize you." 156 But they ham-strung her: then did they become full of regrets. 157 so the punishment came down upon them. Surely in that there is a sign, but most of them would not believe. 158 And lo! thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 159
