Indeed this is a revelation from the Lord of the Universe; 192 The Faithful Spirit has descended with it, 193 Upon your heart that you may be of the warners 194 In the perspicuous Arabic tongue. 195 And indeed it is mentioned in the earlier Books. 196 Was it not a proof for them that the learned men of Israel knew about this? 197 And if We had revealed it (this Quran) unto any of the non-Arabs, 198 And he had recited it unto them, they would not have believed in it. 199 Thus have We inserted disbelief into the hearts of the criminals. 200 they will not believe in it until they see the grievous punishment. 201 The torment will strike them suddenly without their knowledge. 202 They will therefore say, “Will we get some respite?” 203 Do they want to hasten Our torment? 204 Do you not see that even if We give them respite for years 205 Yet there comes to them at length the (Punishment) which they were promised! 206 That which they were made to enjoy shall not avail them? 207 And We destroyed not a city but it had its warners. 208 As a reminder; and never have We been unjust. 209 And [this divine writ is such a reminder:] no evil spirits have brought it down: 210 They are unworthy of it, nor can they do it. 211 indeed they are debarred from overhearing it. 212 So call not on any other god with Allah, or thou wilt be among those under the Penalty. 213 And warn your near relations, 214 And be kind to him who follows you of the believers. 215 And if they disobey you, then say, "Indeed, I am disassociated from what you are doing." 216 And rely upon the Exalted in Might, the Merciful, 217 who sees you when you stand 218 and sees your movements among those who prostrate themselves: 219 He is the All Hearing, the All Knowing. 220 Shall I inform you, (O people!), on whom it is that the evil ones descend? 221 They come down on every guilty impostor. 222 The satans try to listen to the heavens but many of them are liars. 223 As for the poets - it is the seduced who follow them. 224 Have you not seen that they wander distract in every valley, 225 And that they say what they practise not?- 226 Except those who believe, work righteousness, engage much in the remembrance of Allah, and defend themselves only after they are unjustly attacked. And soon will the unjust assailants know what vicissitudes their affairs will take! 227
