۞ "Bring ye up", it shall be said, "The wrong-doers and their wives, and the things they worshipped- 22 Instead of Allah, and lead them to the path to hell; 23 Stop them. They must be questioned." 24 'But what is the matter with you that you cannot help one another?,'" 25 Nay, but on that Day they would willingly surrender [to God]; 26 They will then turn towards each other (and start wrangling). 27 Saying: "It were you who imposed yourselves upon us." 28 They will say, "No! It was you who would not believe -- 29 We had no authority over you, but you were an insolent nation. 30 "So now the Word of our Lord has been justified against us, that we shall certainly (have to) taste (the torment). 31 “We therefore led you astray, for we ourselves were astray!” 32 So all of them on that day are sharers in the chastisement. 33 Indeed, that is how We deal with the criminals. 34 Truly, when it was said to them: La ilaha ill-Allah "(none has the right to be worshipped but Allah)," they puffed themselves up with pride (i.e. denied it). 35 And said: "Should we abandon our gods for the sake of an insane poet?" 36 In fact, he had brought them the truth and had acknowledged the Messengers (who were sent before him). 37 Behold, you will indeed taste grievous suffering [in the life to come,] 38 But it will be no more than the retribution of (the Evil) that ye have wrought;- 39 But the bondmen of Allah, the sincere ones 40 Those will have a provision determined - 41 a variety of delicious fruits; and they shall be honoured 42 In Gardens of peace. 43 sitting face to face upon couches, 44 With cups from a flowing stream being passed around, 45 white and delicious to those who drink it, 46 causing no headiness or intoxication. 47 And with them are those of modest gaze, with lovely eyes, 48 As if they were [delicate] eggs, well-protected. 49 Then they will advance unto each other, mutually questioning. 50 One of them will say, "I had a companion who asked me, 51 who used to say: -- Are you also one of those who confirm the Truth (of life after death)? 52 Can we, when we are dead and have become mere dust and bones - can we (then) verily be brought to book? 53 He saith: Will ye look? 54 Then, he will look and see him in the midst of Hell. 55 He will say to him: -- By Allah, you almost ruined me. 56 Had I not the guidance of my Lord, I would certainly have been brought into torment". 57 “So are we never to die?” (The people of Paradise will ask the angels, with delight, after the announcement of everlasting life.) 58 except for our first death, and are we not chastised? 59 “This is, most certainly, the supreme success.” 60 For the like of this let the workers [on earth] work. 61 Is that better by way of hospitality or the Zaqqum tree, 62 We have indeed made that a punishment for the unjust. 63 Verily, it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hell-fire, 64 Its produce is as it were the heads of the serpents. 65 on it they shall feed, and with it they shall fill their bellies. 66 Washing it down with boiling water. 67 And once again: Verily, the blazing fire is their ultimate goal 68 Verily they found their fathers gone astray. 69 and [now] they make haste to follow in their footsteps! 70 yet before them most of the ancients went astray, 71 And We had already sent among them warners. 72 and behold, how was the end of them that were warned, 73 Not so the chosen servants of God. 74
