So remind [O Muhammad], for you are not, by the favor of your Lord, a soothsayer or a madman. 29 If they say, "He is but a poet; we are waiting for some misfortune to befall him," 30 say [to them], "Wait then: I too am waiting along with you!" -- 31 Or do their intellects bid them do this? Or are they an insolent people? 32 Or do they say, "He has made it up"? Rather, they do not believe. 33 So let them bring a single discourse like it, if they are truthful. 34 Or were they created by nothing, or were they the creators [of themselves]? 35 Did they create the heavens and the earth? No! They have no faith. 36 [How could they?] Are thy Sustainer's treasures with them? Or are they in charge [of destiny]? 37 Or have they a ladder by which they could [ascend to ultimate truths and] listen [to what is beyond the reach of human perception]? Let, then, any of them who have listened [to it] produce a manifest proof [of his knowledge]! 38 Or has He daughters, and they sons? 39 Or do you, [O Muhammad], ask of them a payment, so they are by debt burdened down? 40 Do they have knowledge of the unseen, thus, are able to predict (the future)? 41 Do they design evil plans? The disbelievers themselves will be snared by their evil plots. 42 Or have they a deity other than Allah? Exalted is Allah above whatever they associate with Him. 43 And if they should see a portion of the heaven coming down, they would say: Piled up clouds. 44 Therefore leave them, until they confront their day, in which they will be stunned. 45 A Day whereon their plotting will avail them not at all, nor will they be succoured. 46 Surely a chastisement awaits the wrong-doers even before the coming of that Day; but most of them do not know. 47 Await the judgement of your Lord, for you are always before Our eyes, and glorify your Lord with praises when you rise, 48 And in the night, give Him glory too, and at the setting of the stars. 49
