The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Star when it plunges, 1 your companion is neither astray, neither errs, 2 nor does he speak out of his own desire. 3 It is no less than inspiration sent down to him: 4 Which one of mighty powers hath taught him, 5 The Lord of Strength; so he attained completion, 6 When he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then the Spectacle became closer, and came down in full view. 8 And was at a distance of two bows' length or (even) nearer, 9 So did (Allah) convey the inspiration to His Servant- (conveyed) what He (meant) to convey. 10 His heart lies not of what he saw; 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he saw? 12 And verily he saw him yet another time 13 to the Lot-tree (in the seven heavens) 14 Near which is the garden, the place to be resorted to. 15 When there comes to the Lote Tree, that which comes 16 The sight turned not aside, nor it exceeded. 17 Indeed, he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you ever thought about al-Lat and al-Uzza, 19 And another, the third (goddess), Manat? 20 Do sons belong to you and daughters to God? 21 That is indeed an unjust division. 22 They are naught but names which you have named, you and your fathers; Allah has not sent for them any authority. They follow naught but conjecture and the low desires which (their) souls incline to; and certainly the guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Can ever man get what he desires? 24 To Allah belong both the Next World and the present. 25
