The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 The People on the Right: and how fortunate will be the People on the Right! 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 a host of the ancients 13 And a few from among the latter. 14 On lined couches, 15 Reclining thereon, face to face. 16 immortal youths going round about them 17 with goblets, and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 they will also go about them with the fruits of which they may choose, 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 Only the saying, "Peace! Peace". 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 and extended shade, 30 And water poured out 31 and fruits abounding 32 Whose season is not limited, and their supply will not be cut off, 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 and the noble maidens that We have created 35 Then We have made them virgins, 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 for the people of the right hand 38
