The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 When the earth shall be shaken with a (severe) shaking, 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 and will scatter abroad into fine dust. 6 And ye are classes three. 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 Those on the Left -- how unlucky are those on the Left! 9 As for the Foremost, they will be the foremost! 10 Who will be honoured 11 They will dwell in the Gardens of Bliss: 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 Reclining on them, facing one another. 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 Also, they will be served with the fruits of their choice 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 And gorgeous eyed fair maidens. 22 The likes unto pearls hidden. 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 (will be) among thornless Lote trees. 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 and shade extended, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 Whose season is not limited, and their supply will not be cut off, 33 And couches raised up. 34 and the noble maidens that We have created 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 intensely loving and of matching age. 37 for those on the Right, 38
