The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 no soul will deny its coming. 2 The event will be abasing some, and exalting some. 3 when the earth shall be rocked 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 And ye are classes three. 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter). 10 They shall be near-stationed (to their Lord), 11 In the gardens of bliss. 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 And a few from among the latter. 14 upon close-wrought couches 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 with goblets and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 Whereby there shall be neither headiness nor will they be inebriated. 19 they will also go about them with the fruits of which they may choose, 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 No empty talk will they hear there, nor any call to sin, 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 Bananatrees, piled 29 And in everlasting shade. 30 and flowing water 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 Neither intercepted nor forbidden, 33 And couches raised up. 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 And made them virgins, 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
