In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O thou wrapped up in thy raiment! 1 stand up to pray for much of the night. 2 For half the night, or reduce some from it. 3 Or increase a little upon it, and recite the Qur’an slowly in stages. 4 Behold, We shall cast upon thee a weighty word; 5 [and,] verily, the hours of night impress the mind most strongly and speak with the clearest voice, 6 Verily, there is for you by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties, 7 And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with (exclusive) devotion. 8 He is the Lord of the East and the West. There is no god but He. So take Him alone as your protector. 9 And bear with patience what they utter, and part from them with a fair leave-taking. 10 Leave the prosperous disbelievers to Me and give them respite for a little while; 11 for with Us there are fetters, and a furnace, 12 food that chokes and painful punishment 13 One Day the earth and the mountains will be in violent commotion. And the mountains will be as a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. 14 We have sent to you, (O men!) a messenger, to be a witness concerning you, even as We sent a messenger to Pharaoh. 15 In response Firaun disobeyed the Noble Messenger, so We seized him with a severe seizure. 16 If you disbelieve, how will you guard yourself against the Day that will make children gray haired, 17 The Day when the heavens will be rent asunder and God's promise shall be fulfilled. 18 Verily this is an Admonition: therefore, whoso will, let him take a (straight) path to his Lord! 19
