The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 arise and give warning! 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 And thine inner self purify! 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 it will be a hard day 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (without any means, i.e. Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzumi)! 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate. 16 We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. 17 He planned and plotted. 18 death seized him, how was his determining! 19 yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was haughty; 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 Blackening the skins. 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
