The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ What do they quarrel about? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 that they are in utter disagreement? 3 Verily, they shall soon (come to) know! 4 And once again: Nay, but in time they will come to understand! 5 HAVE WE NOT made the earth a resting-place [for you,] 6 and raised the mountains like supporting poles? 7 And We created you in pairs 8 And made sleep for you to rest, 9 And made the night as a covering, 10 and made the day [a symbol of] life. 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 And have made (therein) a shinning lamp (sun). 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water. 14 So that We bring forth thereby corn and vegetation. 15 And orchards full of trees and interlacing boughs. 16 Surely the Day of Judgement has an appointed time; 17 the Day when the trumpet [of resurrection] is sounded and you all come forward in multitudes; 18 and when the skies are opened and become [as wide-flung] gates; 19 And the mountains shall be moved away from their places and they will be as if they were a mirage. 20 Behold, Gehenna has become an ambush, 21 For the exorbitant a receptacle. 22 They will remain in it for ages. 23 Finding neither sleep nor any thing to drink 24 But boiling and intensely cold water, 25 An appropriate recompense. 26 for they never expected to be called to account, 27 having given the lie to Our messages one and all: 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 So taste! for We will not add to you aught but chastisement. 30
