The Embryo (Al-Alaq)

In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
READ in the name of thy Sustainer, who has created 1 created man out of a germ-cell 2 Recite! Your Lord is the most Honorable One, 3 who taught by the pen, 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 Nay, surely man transgresses; 6 As he bethinkest himself selfsufficient. 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the return. 8 Bethinkest thou him who forbiddeth, 9 A servant when he prays? 10 What is your opinion – if he were upon guidance, 11 Or enjoins Righteousness? 12 Seest thou if he denies (Truth) and turns away? 13 Knows he not that Allah does see (what he does)? 14 By no means! If he desist not We shall seize and deal him by the forelock 15 A forelock, lying, sinning. 16 Then let him call upon his henchmen! 17 We shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 By no means! Obey not thou him. Continue to adore, and continue to draw nigh. ۩ 19

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
