He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 to him thou attendest 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 and in awe of God 9 you ignore him. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble, pious. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 olives, dates, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
