He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 you attended to him, 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 and in awe [of God] 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 exalted and purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 And olive and palm trees 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
