Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Hath there come unto thee tidings of the Overwhelming? 1 [Some] faces, that Day, will be humbled, 2 Labouring, wearied out, 3 They shall roast into the scalding Fire, 4 Given water from the boiling spring to drink. 5 They shall have no food but of thorns, 6 Which doth not nourish nor release from hunger. 7 On that very Day some faces shall be radiant with joy, 8 well-pleased with their striving. 9 In a lofty garden, 10 In which they will not hear any lewd speech. 11 Within it is a flowing spring. 12 Therein shall be couches elevated! 13 Goblets set, 14 And cushions set in a row, 15 And rich carpets spread. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 And the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And the mountains – how they have been established? 19 And the earth, how it is spread? 20 Therefore advise; indeed you are a proclaimer of advice. (The Holy Prophet is a Remembrance from Allah.) 21 You are not at all a guardian over them. 22 But if any turn away and reject Allah,- 23 Then Allah will punish him with the greatest punishment. 24 Indeed, to Us is their return. 25 Then, surely, it is for Us to call them to account. 26
