Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming [event]? 1 On that day the faces of some people will be humbly cast down, 2 Labouring, wearied out, 3 roasting at a scorching Fire 4 their drink shall be from a boiling spring. 5 no food for them except thorny plants 6 Which will neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 [Other] faces, that Day, will show pleasure. 8 well pleased with their striving, 9 They will live in an exalted garden 10 Never hearing idle talk. 11 therein a running fountain, 12 and raised couches, 13 And drinking-cups ready placed, 14 well-placed cushions, 15 And carpets spread around. 16 What, do they not consider how the camel was created, 17 how heaven was lifted up, 18 And the mountains – how they have been established? 19 And at the earth, how it is spread out? 20 Admonish thou then; thou art but an admonisher. 21 You are not over them a controller. 22 However, those who turn away and disbelieve, 23 Him Allah shall torment with the greatest torment. 24 Surely to Us is their turning back, 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
