Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the break of Day 1 and the ten nights, 2 The multiple and the one, 3 and by the night when it moves on towards daybreak (reward and retribution in the next life is an absolute reality). 4 is there not in this strong evidence for a man of sense? 5 (Muhammad), consider how your Lord dealt with the tribe of Ad, 6 (And) the tall giants of Iram? 7 the like of which was never created in the countries? 8 And with the Thamud (people), who cut out (huge) rocks in the valley?- 9 And with Pharaoh, firm of might, 10 Who (all) were rebellious (to Allah) in these lands, 11 So they made great mischief therein? 12 Wherefore thy Lord poured on them the scourge of His torment. 13 Indeed, your Lord is in observation. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord trieth him by honouring him, and is gracious unto him, he saith: My Lord honoureth me. 15 But when He trieth him, restricting his subsistence for him, then saith he (in despair), "My Lord hath humiliated me!" 16 No! But you do not honor the orphan 17 And urge not on the feeding of AlMiskin (the poor)! 18 and you devour the inheritance with greed, 19 And ye love wealth with inordinate love! 20 Most certainly – when the earth is smashed and blown to bits. 21 And your Lord comes with the angels in rows, 22 and when Hell is brought near that Day. On that Day will man understand, but of what avail will that understanding be? 23 He shall say, 'O would that I had forwarded for my life!' 24 On that day the punishment of God and His detention will be unparalleled. 25 And none can bind as He will bind. 26 (On the other hand it will be said): “O serene soul! 27 Return thou unto thy Sustainer, well-pleased [and] pleasing [Him]: 28 Then enter the ranks of My chosen bondmen! 29 And enter into My garden. 30
