The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Night as it conceals (the light); 1 and the day in splendour 2 and by Him Who created the male and the female: 3 Your striving is most surely (directed to) various (ends). 4 So he who gives (in charity) and fears (Allah), 5 and affirmed the Truth of goodness: 6 Unto him therefore We shall indeed make easy the path to ease. 7 But as for him who hoardeth and deemeth himself independent, 8 and cries lies to the reward most fair, 9 We shall surely ease him to the Hardship; 10 And his wealth will not avail him when he perishes. 11 Surely Ours is it to show the way, 12 and to Us belong the Next Life and the present. 13 Now I have warned you of a Fire that flames, 14 in which no one will suffer forever except the wicked ones 15 He who denieth and turneth away. 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 even he who gives his wealth. to purify himself 18 And have in their minds no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 Except only the desire to seek the Countenance of his Lord, the Most High; 20 He verily will be content. 21
