Dawn (Al-Fajr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the Dawn 1 And the Ten Nights, 2 And the Even and the Odd, 3 And by the night when it departs. 4 Is there in that an oath for the mindful? 5 Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the 'Ad (people),- 6 (And) the tall giants of Iram? 7 the like of which was never created in the countries? 8 And Thamood, who hewed out the rocks of the valley? 9 And with Firaun, who used to crucify. 10 Who (all) were rebellious (to Allah) in these lands, 11 And multiplied iniquity therein? 12 and therefore thy Sustainer let loose upon them a scourge of suffering: 13 Indeed nothing is hidden from the sight of your Lord. 14 As for the human being, when his Lord tests him, honors him, and grants him bounty, he says, "God has honored me". 15 But whenever He trieth him by straitening his means of life, he saith: My Lord despiseth me. 16 Nay, but ye (for your part) honour not the orphan 17 And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor. 18 And you consume inheritance, devouring [it] altogether, 19 And ye love riches with exceeding love. 20 When the earth is crushed into small pieces 21 And thy Lord cometh, and His angels, rank upon rank, 22 And Hell, that Day, is brought (face to face),- on that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance profit him? 23 He will say, "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life!" 24 For, that Day, His Chastisement will be such as none (else) can inflict, 25 And none will bind as He will bind. 26 But ah! thou soul at peace! 27 return to your Lord well pleased with him and He will be pleased with you. 28 Enter thou among My bondmen! 29 And come into My Paradise! 30
