So, when the envoys came to the folk of Lot, 61 He said: Lo! ye are folk unknown (to me). 62 They said: nay! we have come to thee with that whereof they have been dubitating. 63 "Yet we bring to you the truth, and we are truthful. 64 Therefore go forth with your followers in a part of the night and yourself follow their rear, and let not any one of you turn round, and go forth whither you are commanded. 65 And We decreed for him that commandment, that the last remnant of those should be cut off in the morning. 66 And there came the people of the city rejoicing 67 He said: 'These are my guests; do not shame me. 68 "But fear Allah, and shame me not." 69 They said: "Did we not forbid thee (to speak) for all and sundry?" 70 [Lot] said, "These are my daughters - if you would be doers [of lawful marriage]." 71 By thy life, in their intoxication they were wandering bewildered. 72 Therefore the scream overcame them at sunrise. 73 Thus did We turn it upside down, and rained down upon them stones of what had been decreed. 74 Verily, in all this there are messages indeed for those who can read the signs: 75 That town lies on a road which still exists. 76 Indeed there is a portent in this for those who believe. 77 The people of the Wood were also surely wrongdoers. 78 So We inflicted retribution on them, and they are both, indeed, on an open road (still) pursued. 79
