The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ When the Terror descends 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 Abasing (some), exalting (others); 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 and the mountains crumbled 5 and become like scattered dust particles, 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 Who will be honoured 11 in the Gardens of Delight, 12 A [large] company of the former peoples 13 but only a few from the later generations. 14 On studded thrones. 15 reclining on them, arrayed face to face; 16 Immortal youths will serve them 17 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 along with fruits of their choice; 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.). 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 Bananatrees, piled 29 and spreading shade 30 and flowing water 31 and abundant fruits, 32 Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden, 33 And raised couches; 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 And made them virgins, 36 intensely loving and of matching age. 37 with those who have attained to righteousness: 38
