If anyone withdraws himself from remembrance of (Allah) Most Gracious, We appoint for him an evil one, to be an intimate companion to him. 36 Satan will prevent them from the right path while they think that they have the right guidance. 37 When such a person comes to Us, he will say [to his comrade], "If only you had been as far away from me as east is from west. What an evil comrade!" 38 When ye have done wrong, it will avail you nothing, that Day, that ye shall be partners in Punishment! 39 What! can you then make the deaf to hear or guide the blind and him who is in clear error? 40 We shall inflict retribution on them, whether We take you away from the world (before We do that), 41 or We show thee a part of that We promised them, surely We have power over them. 42 So hold thou fast unto that which has been revealed unto thee; surely thou art upon a straight path. 43 Verily it is a great source of eminence for you and your people, and soon you will be called to account concerning that. 44 Ask those of Our messengers whom We sent before you, "Did We ever appoint gods to be worshipped besides the Beneficent One?" 45
