He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 To him you give attention. 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 and fearfully, 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 olives, dates, 29 and dense orchards, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 And his mother and his father 35 his wife and his children. 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 but others will be gloomy 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
