A company of the former peoples 39 And a multitude from the later generations. 40 As for the Companions of the Left 41 They will live amid the scorching, 42 and a shade of thick, pitch-black smoke, 43 neither cool, neither goodly; 44 and before that they lived at ease, 45 And they have been persisting in the heinous offence. 46 And said: "What! When we are dead and turned to dust and bones, shall we then be raised again? 47 We and our fathers of old? 48 Say: 'Those of ancient times and those of later times 49 Are going to be assembled on the appointed time of a Day Known. 50 "Then will ye truly,- O ye that go wrong, and treat (Truth) as Falsehood!- 51 Ye verily will eat of a tree called Zaqqum 52 filling your bellies, with it 53 And drinking on top of it from scalding water 54 like a thirsty camel". 55 That will be their entertainment on the Day of Recompense! 56 We created you; therefore why will you not believe? 57 Just consider (the semen) that you emit, 58 Do you create it, or We are its creator? 59 We have ordained death among you and We are not to be overcome, 60 In that We will change your likenesses and produce you in that [form] which you do not know. 61 And you have already known the first creation, so will you not remember? 62 Have you considered what you sow? 63 Is it you who cause it to grow - or are We the cause of its growth? 64 If We pleased, We should have certainly made it broken down into pieces, then would you begin to lament: 65 Verily we are undone. 66 nay; we have been undone!” 67 Have you ever considered the water which you drink? 68 Is it you who cause it from the rainclouds to come down, or are We the Causer of it to come down? 69 Had We wanted, We could have made it salty. Why then do you not give thanks? 70 Have ye observed the fire which ye strike out; 71 Is it you who produced its tree, or are We the producer? 72 We have made it a reminder and an advantage for the wayfarers of the desert. 73 Then magnify the Name of thy Lord, the All-mighty. 74
