The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night when it covers 1 And the day when it shines in all its glory, 2 And Him who created the male and female, 3 surely your strivings are divergent. 4 Then as for him who gives away and guards (against evil), 5 and affirmed the Truth of goodness: 6 We shall ease the way of fortune for him. 7 But as for him who is a miser, and self-sufficient, 8 And who belieth the Good, 9 We shall facilitate the path to affliction 10 nor will his wealth profit him when he falls [into the pit]. 11 Surely, in Our hands is guidance, 12 And most surely Ours is the hereafter and the former. 13 I therefore warn you of the fire that is ablaze. 14 Which only the most wretched must endure, 15 Who belieth and turneth away. 16 One who fears God shall be kept away from it -- 17 Who giveth away his substance that he may be cleansed, 18 And no one has done a favour to him, for which he should be compensated. 19 only seeking the Face of his Lord the Most High; 20 And he shall soon be well-pleased. 21
